Many of his stories are famous in the world of cricket. The 1999 incident of Saqleen Mushtaq is quite interesting, in which he used to lock his wife in a cupboard. This was revealed by Saqlain Mushtaq himself during an interview.
Saqlain Mushtaq told Ronak Kapoor's show 'Beyond the Field' that he hid his wife in the closet of his hotel room during the 1999 World Cup in England. In fact, during the 1999 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board suddenly asked the players to send their families back in the middle of the tournament, but Saqlain decided not to comply. Saqlain Mushtaq said that actually I got married in December 1998. My wife lived in London, so I stayed with my wife during the 1999 World Cup. My fixed rule was to work hard and train like a true professional with the team during the day and spend time with my wife in the evening.
Saqlain Mushtaq further said that 'but they suddenly said that our family will be sent back. So I said to my head coach, Richard Pybus, everything is going well, so why the change? I'm one of those people who likes to keep things as they are and don't feel the need to try new things for no reason.
I decided that I would not act on it.Saqlain Mushtaq, who scored a hat-trick against Zimbabwe in the 1999 World Cup, further said that managers, coaches used to come to our room and search. Some players also came to talk. So one day when I heard a knock at the door, I told my wife to go and hide inside the closet. The manager came, took one look and went back. Other officers came and went back. And in the midst of all this, my wife was hiding in the closet. Then Azhar (Mahmood) and Muhammad Yusuf came to talk to me about this new regulation.
They suspected that my wife was in the room. I agreed to his insistence. So I asked my wife to come out of the closet.The former Pakistan cricketer further said that I was able to avoid it because the atmosphere was very bad after losing to Australia in the final, everyone was depressed. I went back to my hotel, checked out and asked my wife to go to my apartment, which was also in London. Actually I used to play county cricket, so they gave me an apartment there.
Tell that Saqlain Mushtaq has taken 208 and 288 wickets respectively in 49 Tests and 169 ODI matches while representing Pakistan.
