Big upset in T20 World Cup, England defeated by Ireland |
In the Super 12 stage match of the T20 World Cup in
Australia, Ireland has upset the England team by five runs.
Ireland won by five runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method
in a rain-affected match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Ireland
scored 157 runs while playing first. The entire Ireland team returned to the
pavilion on the second ball of the last over.
In reply, the England team was given a target of 111 runs
due to rain.
The England team managed to score 105 runs after losing
five wickets in 14 overs and three balls.
On behalf of England, David Mullan got out after scoring
35 runs while captain Moeen Ali remained not out after scoring 24 runs off 12
balls.
Earlier, when England won the toss and invited Ireland to
bat, its openers got off to a confident start. Ireland's first wicket fell for
21 and the second for 103 runs.
Opener
Andy Balbrini scored 64 runs while one-down Lorcan Tucker was run out after
scoring 34 runs. None of the other players could show significant performance.
