In the 16th match of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2023, New Zealand defeated Afghanistan by 149 runs and won the fourth match in a row.

New Zealand's Glenn Phillips was declared the player of the match for his brilliant batting. Chasing a target of 289 runs, the Afghanistan team collapsed for 139 runs in 34.4 overs, so New Zealand won the match by 149 runs and took the first position on the points table. From Afghanistan, Rahmat Shah 36 and Azmatullah Umar Zai played an innings of 27 runs while no other player could show sufficient performance.
