Xavi expecting Madrid to ‘wage war’ in cup Clasico
BARCELONA: Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez warned his team on Tuesday that their Copa del Rey semi-final opponents Real Madrid would be coming to wage a “footballing war” at Camp Nou.
Barcelona currently holds a 1-0 lead from the first leg against their rivals and have won the last three Clasicos. However, Xavi emphasized to reporters that past victories won't matter in the upcoming match, stating that it will be "another footballing war". Xavi anticipates that Real Madrid will be seeking revenge and come to the match wounded and hurt, as they have lost the last three Clasicos. Barcelona will be without four injured key players, including Pedri, Ousmane Dembele, Frenkie de Jong, and Andreas Christensen.
Despite Barcelona's lead, Xavi considers Real Madrid as the favorites to win, citing their experience and history of comebacks. Xavi expects Real Madrid to play an aggressive game and try to stop Barcelona from controlling the match and playing their usual possession football, and he emphasized the importance of Barcelona having a strong personality to keep the ball.
